Time was when Arsenal dominated the Premier League with a free flowing style of football that was hinged on ball retention, and counter attacking threats. Alas, the Gunner appears to have shoved that ideology and Arsene Wenger has resorted to a new tactics.
While Arsenal bolstered their attack this season, we are yet heavily linked with a move for French attacker Thomas Lemar. The story of Monaco’s conquest of the Ligue 1 last season would not be complete without the mention of Lemar – he scored nine goals, and provided 11 assists in the league. Should he complete a move to Arsenal, it would change the outlook of the team.
Arsene Wenger reverted to playing with a back three towards to the end of last season and he has stuck with same tactics this season. The squad has lacked creativity but with a Lemar cutting in from the right flank, we could see an Arsenal that will outplay and outclass their opponent.
We run a rule on how Arsenal will line-up with Lemar in attack.
Petr Cech has remained indisputable as the goalkeeper of Arsenal and he’ll retain his position in-between the sticks.
French defender Laurent Koscielny has played at the heart of a back three. His pace and experience has always come handy. He will be the last man for Arsenal back three and flanked by him would be Skhodran Mustafi and Sead Kolasinac.
This formation sees the team play with two wing backs, who run the length and breadth of the wing positions. Chamberlain has earned a place in the team of Arsenal and he’s likely going to occupy the left given his attacking prowess, while Hector Bellerin will man the right wing back position.
Xhaka has earned plaudits for his recent display in the middle of the pack. He will anchor the midfield and mainly dictates play but close to him will be Mesut Ozil, who will play in the stead of a free role midfielder. The biggest victim would be Aaron Ramsey unless Wenger reverts to playing with a back four.
Alexis Sanchez is in line to return to Arsenal for their game against Liverpool but when he fully returns, he’ll occupy the attack, with Lacazette leading the frontline.
