The contract saga between Arsenal and English star Alex Oxlade Chamberlain has continued to headline the English media wave. The versatile English star has refused to stop playing hardball as reports have indicated that he’ll only sign a contract extension on the condition that he’s handed a £200,000-a-week deal, according to reports.
Chamberlain, 23, has a year to run down his current Arsenal contract and he has refused to append his signature on the dotted lines handed to him by the Gunners. He could leave for a transfer fee this summer or on zero fees next summer, but Chelsea have been lurking around with a £35million deal for him.
He was handed £120,000-a-week and £150,000-a-week deals respective and on rejection, Arsenal reportedly agreed to an offer of £180k-a-week. Nonetheless, he has failed to empathise with Wenger who desperately wants him within the Gunners fold and rejected the latest offer.
The Daily Star runs a report that Chamberlain, who is heavily linked with a move to Chelsea and Liverpool, wants £200k-week deal on the table before he’ll agree to sign an extension deal. The report further claims he wants a four-year deal too.
In as much as Chamberlain is the currently the most versatile Arsenal player, he should be sold if he does not want to sign. Alexis Sanchez scored 30 goals last season and made 14 assists while Mesut Ozil, despite his shambolic form, scored 12 goals and provided 14 assist – Arsene Wenger should be bothered more about keeping the aforementioned duo than Chamberlain who is has failed to fulfill his potential.
Arsenal have been linked all summers with a move for Thomas Lemar and Riyad Mahrez. I’d rather Wenger sells Chamberlain if he refuses to sign and spend the money on any of his attacking targets.
