Arsenal legend reveals Arsene Wenger’s ideal replacement

Arsene Wenger’s future at Arsenal has continued to raise debate and generate comments and opinions. The Gunners boss has refused to make further comments about his future at the club and a host of coaches have been linked with replacing him but all have remained mere news which may not see the light of the day.

In the light of that, Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes his former team mates Patrick Vieira is the man to turn around the situation of the club. The French man had served as Manchester City reserve team and elite development squad manger and he is currently managing MLS side New York City.

And despite being his only experience of managing a senior side Merson is strongly convinced Vieira is qualified for the job, this is according to Football.London.

“Patrick is a legend and I just think he’ll get his team playing the way he played the game, which is what they need at the moment. He brings a winning mentality, he won’t take any rubbish”.

While it may sound good on paper, Is Vieira Arsene Wenger’s ideal replacement?

Viera is no doubt loved by the fans and he is a cult hero of the club despite leaving 12 years ago. He spent nine years at Arsenal, made 406 appearances and won three Premier League titles as well as four FA Cups so he is well aware of the club’s ideology.

He may easily win over the fans but that will only last if he keeps getting it right on the pitch. His arrival may also breathe fresh ideas and tactics into the system, something Wenger has been consistently accused of lacking.

However, his lack of experience at the top level may count against him. Not every good player makes up a good coach. Apart from his stint as City reserve team coach he has only one full season under his belt as a manager, his CV is not convincing enough to get him the job.

His legacy at the club may also be ruined. Not forgetting the fact that Wenger was once loved by the fans, awful results and performances may pitch the fans against Vieira damaging his reputation among the fans.

Arsenal need an experienced manager to replace Wenger.
