Arsenal training, the Melo mystery and an Arseblog shout-out

Unfortunately I’ve got a dinner to rush off to tonight, so I’m going to have to be extremely brief today. Sorry about that.

The Arsenal squad returned to training yesterday and there are plenty of photos of the boys on the official website. Obviously new signing Thomas Vermaelen stole the photographer’s eye more than most, although it was good to see the likes of Thomas Rosicky and Philipoe Senderos back again.

There’s been some contrasting news regarding Felipe Melo today. One source (Guardian) says that Arsene Wenger is still very interested in signing the Brazilian while another (Goal.com) says that he’s already signed for Juventus. Not quite sure what to say at this stage and I think we’ll have to wait for news to break on a more reliable source to confirm any transfer.

Finally today I want to give a massive shout-out to Arseblogger for publishing an amazing interview with Arsenal CEO Ivan Gazidis. It’s a brilliant read and above all a great indication of the power that blogs are starting to have amongst the news world. Great stuff.

And that’s it. Gotta run.

Have your say on all things Arsenal by leaving a comment.

Please guys let’s be realistic. Actually how worthwhile is this Melo guy? Too bad if he’s been signed up by Juve or any other club for that matter. Tomas Roscky is back, Cesc fabregas aint going nowhere and thankfully Eboue isnt for swaps or so I think. New signings or not I still believe in our small boys. Thing is they are all ready for the new season and Great!

MATUIDI PLAYS THE SAME LIKE SONG BUT IS MORE AGGRESSIVE.

LET’S WAIT AND SEE…I WOULD LOVE EBOUE TO STAY BECAUSE HE IS VERSATILE.

I can see our team being the same next season except probably Vermaelen swapping for Toure, in the starting line up. Will that change us into title winners? Or will it cause further disharmony behind the scenes?

Call me a pessimist, but I honestly don’t think we will make any more signings this summer.

Great news about Robin van Persie though – all hail the next Bergkamp!

4th place is not good enoguh anymore! top 3, and nomore being knocked out of FA and Carling early on, winning one of those two cups at the very least is necessary to keep players like arshavin and fabregas. anyone have a guess at next years formation/who is playing the positions?

Leave this fellow Melo man. If we can get any other CDM itis fair enough. I don’t think we are so desperate to sign him for more than 20 M. People just think is he better than Nasri who cost us 12 M or Arsha who cost us 16 M. So just leave him he is over priced. It is so good to se R7 in the field and Eduardo. Come on R7 we need u to be fit.

RvPs loyalty to the club “good” – Hmmmm

Well in 4 years he has played, I would guess, about 80 games

Every time he pulled on that old orange shirt off he went to the treatment table for another six months

And now he has a contract paying him £80k a week

So I reckon he has done what he should have done

Whether Melo signs with Arsenal or not, Wenger probably has two or three other DM’s he is interested in. The best part about Arsene (and the worst) is that no one really knows who he are trying to sign until he actually does. Up to that point it’s anyone’s “educated” guess. Whether the boys win a trophy or not next year I will still be 1000% behind them!!!! Go Gunners!

there must be something happening soon as rvp said he won’t sign untill he’s assured we will compete next year as it wasn’t for the money so just waiting for another wtf who signing like verminator or nasri to come along.

In the words of Today’s Daily Telegraph Dan –

On Arseblog, they have compiled a dossier on the “definitely not lazy” 25-year-old.

According to said dossier, Adebayor is “much better than Marlon Harewood and Mido put together” and is one of the most “feared, dangerous and fertile strikers in Europe”.

And just for good measure, he is also described as a “tender and considerate lover” and his top speed is “145kph”.

With so many things going for him, all laid out in detail, Arsenal fans are confident the biggest clubs in Europe will come flocking to snap up the player

This melo guy is startin to anoy me!!! Is it me or does it seem like this doesnt want to come to arsenal. He obviously knows that arsenal are interested in him and yet he signs a new contract, then he goes and says that he would love to play for juve when arsenal are also interested. Has he said he would love to play for arsenal yet? NO. To be honest i dont mind if we dnt aquire him, i like cana, no, i love cana and his aggressiveness. Yeah come on cana, come to arsenal, you know you want to!!!

Tomas Roscky, Cesc Fabregas, RVP, Theo, Arshav and Sami well if they do get the ball off them good luck to them we don’t need a DM lick your lips at those names and get ready for a great season!

I need some reaction to an idea that is stuck in my head. Any time an opponent has a defensively weak right side, Arsene could load up our left and continually punish them. Fabs and Nasri (he tracks back remarkably well) playing middle-left with Vela wide left. Arshavin playing underneath RVP or Eduardo (or Ade). If healthy, Rosicky could run his ass off on the right, knowing that around the 65th minute, Walcott will come on while we enjoy the look of despair on their defender’s face as he tries to keep up with our speedster. Lots of agile, quick little passing down the left with Walcott running onto through balls down the right. Class on the left and speed on the right. Am I losing my mind? Nasri and Vela always seem to have an amazing on-the-field chemistry. Add Arshavin and Eduardo and they’ll make many teams look quite foolish.

But then again, I may have lost it completely.

Formation-Advanced 4-4-2 with the support striker a bit to the right and the left midfielder allowed a free drifting role behind the centre forward. RVP and EDUARDO can alternate upfront, ARSHAVIN on the left, ROSICKY on the right, NASRI/SONG and FABREGAS completing the middle. The back is settled as whoever plays between CLICHY/GIBBS and GALLAS/SENDEROS or DJOUROU/VERMALIC and SAGNA/KOLO will give us Rock solidity at the back. Meaning we still need a stiffler in the defensive midfield-can we bring back flamini?
We still need a finisher(another EDUARDO) at the club, ADE wastes a lot of balls and BENTNER(lets give him one more year) is not just ready yet. Finally, pls WENGER lets start having spot kick specialists…..bring in people to train them, AMEN.

@ Medeski that would work but also did you see the on-the-field chemistry vela and dudu had in a couple of the games they played together but the one that caught my eye I think was when dudu came back and scored the double in the f.a. cup (can’t remember what team though)

    @GunnerBoss

Thanks, I think that that sounds like a good idea, there are just so many players that are availible to start that the problem is putting the players in the places. I agree that it will be Eddy and Robby up top, while Ade is the substitute, I think that Wenger should sell Toure, or Clichy maybe, there are currently 10+ backs

  40. Hey Nonny Mouse
    July 9, 2009 at 12:47 pm #

Come on @Charles…sell Toure or Clichy? That’s really ****ing sensible, yeah. We conceded too many goals last season so let’s sell our best and most experienced defenders.
Seriously – we need one more player – a strong defensive midfielder. When he’s injured Song can sub for him. Other than that we’re looking pretty good now. But we really do need that one more player. What happens if Song gets injured? We’re Swiss cheese.

@Charles – Winning the UEFA Champions League and the EPL means keeping all the best players at ur disposal. If they understand the benefits of rotation, they will be happy to play whenever called upon. I hope ur not forgetting the injuries……and lets face it, if we really wanna win them cups, then we need some of the more experienced players at the back in such a way that one man doesn’t play all those games and end up picking an injury toward the end of the campaign(ala Gallas).

Imagine the mix we could get for the carling cup….instead of fielding a bunch of young boys, we could finally afford some experienced luxury. The squad is rich with strength in depth, Rosicky is back, Eduardo, Bentner/Vela is maturing, Song just has to explode…this will be his season.

But, what if something happens to Eduardo or Rosicky….you see what I mean? We just go right back to where we were last season, THIS IS WHY I SAY please WENGER give us a clinical finisher(another EDUARDO) and A STIFFLER(a defensive minded creative midfielder). We need someone who can convert the slightest of chances because with ARSHAVIN, NASRI, FABREGAS and ROSICKY, we will be getting plenty of them.

  43. GunnerBoss
    July 9, 2009 at 10:08 pm #

So, we could have in defense; Gibbs, Senderous, Djourou and Kolo for F.A cup initial rounds and Carling cup even up to the semis.
Starting line for me would be Clichy, Gallas, Vermaelen and Sagna. They will be hearing from us soon.

  44. GunnerBoss
    July 9, 2009 at 10:18 pm #

Lets not forget that Barcelona had our once cherished Hleb in their squad just in case.
But we can count how many games he played in. They were Champs because they had strength in depth. The team was not afraid of any particular player getting any injuries, so they were confident.
We could be invincible this season if the defensive midfield compartment is bolstered with an experienced buy. The striking department reshufled with Ade(I dont believe in him at all) leaving and getting us another Finisher/Sniffer

  45. charles
    July 10, 2009 at 1:39 am #

alright, maybe not clichy, but i honestly think selling kolo wouldnt be a mistake, senderos is back, and vermeleen is here, i want vermeleen to start, and i also believe that sagna should start in EPL and UCL, he is strong and has been playing well for French National. do arsenal really need another striker? RvP, eduardo are great, and Ade can be if he is in the right mind set, remember his goal versus Villareal? plus walcott can play well, Vela was great in carling and FA, plus theres bendtner. however, i do like samuel eto’o, is there any chance he would come to arsenal, barca really do not want him. I know it is a slim chance at best

  46. GunnerBoss
    July 10, 2009 at 8:44 pm #

@Charles – I would really prefer KOLO to SILVESTRE, RVP and EDUARDO are injury prone….what if we loose them both? ADE needs to put his head down(dont see that happening) and BENTNER is not just ready yet. I would be hoping for DZEKO or CHAMAKH instead of ETO(i think he wants to stay at BARCA)
