Arsenal trialing Wilson Palacios or Harry Potter?

Wilson Palacios may be on his way to ArsenalHonduras winger or Hogwarts magician on trial at Arsenal?

Just a quick post to mention that according to some sources (including Gunnerblog), Arsenal are currently trialing 23-year-old Honduras international winger Wilson Palacios. You can read all the speculation here. Frankly, if this turns out to be true then I will be delighted. I don’t really care how good or bad he is, I just think that Arsenal needs more options out wide and Palacios would provide this. That’s all I’ll say about it today - I don’t really want to be duped like I was with the Rodrigo Palacio story - but if more develops you’ll be the first to know. Also, make sure you read today’s other post about how Arsenal will cope without William Gallas. Cheers.

Update: I’m just getting the feeling that this one’s a fake. Check out a quote from one of the ’reliable’ newspaper sources, which I’ve translated crudely from Spanish into English:

“After testing in the Red Star of Belgrade and Monaco of France, Harry Potter saturated in England.”

Seems to me like someone’s having a laugh…

Have your say on the Wilson Palacios speculation by leaving a comment.

  1. Not another Palacio i hope. And i do hope he’s better than Walcott and Eboue if that signing happens.

  2. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. To be perfectly honest with you I wouldn’t mind if he wasn’t better than Walcott or Eboue - we just need some more options. Not that I want him to be too awful though. I refuse to get excited… yet.

  4. Rofl. Yea. Seems Arsenal Fans are being targeted more and more for these sort of pranks. There are so many blogs and communities and start a rumor with some link to wikipedia and it all starts.

  5. Remove sentiments and any act of bitterness,It would be great to have Anelka back in Emirates,It would be great to have him partner Van Persie up front.
Let’s face fact,What if Van Persie injured now and he’s unable to play for several weeks!are we going to be using Walcott or Bendtner?
    EPL,CL,FA,CL AND LC!
    Wenger,please bring in 1 or 2 players.

  6. Really wenger needs to splash out some cash or he shouldn’t be allowed to leave with a few injuries to our squad we’ll between some thorns and a very bad place…what is he saying John Utaka isn’t good enough where was Wenger when he was signed???he’s aggressive, determined, physical and skillful that’s what we need, in it???

  8. My take on Palacios, having seen him play for club and country on my blog…
    http://plantain-futbol.blogspot.com/
Basically, I think he’d be a very good addition but not ready to jump into the first team right away.

  9. Get in Emre from newcastle - he is a fast left winger and he is awsome at CM or CAM so we have 3 players in 1 also he would not cost a lot either. Emre is a player to get. Arda Turan from Galatasaray is a good Winger as well but Emre is so underrated. Buy him - opinions please!!!

  10. Wenger must sign 2 players. If RVP gets injured then : “Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce will allow striker Obafemi Martins to join Manchester United or Arsenal - if they table a £13m bid” We can bid for super striker Martins. And i mentioned Emre above.

  11. Here in Honduras all the information we have regarding Wilson Palacios is that he’s been in trial with Arsenal. But nothing more. It seems it is true he has made the trial, its now if he will get the ok or sent back to Honduras. His team is doing bad in the Honduras league. Supposedly he was suppose to sign yesterday. But obviously it did not happen. He is a very good player, I hope he really gets signed by Arsenal.

  21. I’m an Arsenal fan do we expect to have any success with Lehmann at the goal?We should get rid of him before we find ourselves in trouble.
I think Arsenal should drop Lehmann from first team after watching English & Germany match and also the previous 2 matches in the premiership. He is making 2 many mistakes which could be costly for us,again yesterday he made some stupid mistakes but this time he got away with it.He is short of confidence, and we should give Fabianski a chance.

Posted by Joshua Asante | August 23, 2007, 12:00 am
  22. I think Katracho comments are without a base, probably is a fan of the adversary teams of Olimpia. THe last we heard in the Honduras radio news is that he is signing tomorrow, Thursday

    Posted by Jag | August 23, 2007, 1:12 am
  23. Jag - That’s absolutely remarkable if true - especially considering the ridiculousness of the newspaper article. Would be good to see him join though.

Posted by Spanish Fry | August 23, 2007, 2:41 am
  24. Asante i don’t really think it is fair to judge lehmann by yesterday’s friendly. u must understand that he trains with arsenal like 98% of the times and his communication with the arsenal defence can’t be compared with tht of his motherland.maybe he did a few mistakes yesterday but according to what i saw, most of the mistakes were due to poor marking by the defence and not his goalkeeping skills..like that lampard goal, richards outwitted two defenders who didn’t really seem in a hurry to take the ball and lampard had all the time and space to drive the ball past lehmann

i’ll agree though that lehmann needs to pull up his socks otherwise almunia should get the priority over him although for the Man City game in particular,(with gallas out) let’s have lehmann between the posts because his experience will cover what we’ll lack in the defence.he should just avoid repetition of those mistakes he made in the previous two league matches.

“Remove sentiments and any act of bitterness,It would be great to have Anelka back in Emirates,It would be great to have him partner Van Persie up front…” I might be breaking my beer bottle on this but as much as Anelka is a good player, i don’t really wanna see him in Emirates..let’s have Obafemi or take confidence in our RVP,Adebayor,Da Silva, Bentdner and even Hleb marksmen coz i see great potential in them. we seriously do need a winger and established defender though. CHEERS! ;)

  25. Knightman,Obafemi Martins or whosoev’r I just want to see a new face before the transfer deadline,so please don’t broke your bottle of beer.

  26. any play is welcome as long as good enough to play in barclays league

    Posted by tharu | August 23, 2007, 7:23 am
  27. 1. Fry, surely you do care how good or bad he is. If we signed some fat disabled retired old man, you’d be pissed right? Or another Baps?

    2. Harry Potter is supposedly his nickname and Geekov (I think it was) said that it was a bad quick translation that lead to that quote.

    3. I’d love him to come if he’s good. Yes he’s been whoring himself about, but didn’t the likes of Monaco really want him in every report i’ve read, but just couldn’t sort the deal out? If it doesn’t happen though, or if he’s just shit, i’d be ok if he passes us by.

    4. We’ve already been burned by Palacio(s), if it’s a fake, someone has done well in scouting the whole world for someone with a similar name to laff at us.

    Posted by Samuel | August 23, 2007, 8:12 am
  28. Also, now I am pissed.
The league has already become a corperation, sure. But that was the first time I’ve seen it be called the barclays league. I mean, fucking hell, this competetion i love so much now doesn’t have a name, just a corperate sponser. fuck all this capitalism shit, people should play football because they love it and watch it for the same. Not for how much money is in the fucking thing.

When people finally land on the other planets, they will be named after the brand that sponsers it first.

    Posted by Samuel | August 23, 2007, 8:15 am
  29. Samuel - Spot on. As for the comment about whether he is good or bad, what I meant was he doesn’t have to be Ronaldinho for me to welcome the signing - a good quality squad player would do nicely. Also, thanks for the information on the use of ‘Harry Potter’ in the report.

  37. Well, I just wanted to say that Wilson Palacios is a good player, not a magical player, but a good hard team player, I’m a fan of Olimpia, his team down here at Honduras, I still don’t know if he’s ready for the big boys playing in your league, but he has a lot of class and he is hard working, I hope he signs so we can watch him wearing Arsenal’s gloriuos jersey, but if he doesn’t sign send him back so he helps olimpia win some more leagues…we’ll train him some more for u to get him next year…twice the price dought….

  38. palacios is one of the best players in central america.

  39. I am from Honduras but live in Canada however I watch League games of all the Honduran teams and Palacios is an ok player… he can play either attacking midfield or winger. If he gets signed by Arsenal, I wouldnt expect him to play first team right away, to me hes more of a substitute. The problem is not whether he is good enough because if he wasnt he wouldnt have gotten a trial at Monaco or that other team, the problem is Olimpia is asking more than the player is worth. The owner is a cheap ass.

  40. Hi guys, I can tell you that Palacios was on trial in Red Star Belgrade for some 10 days or so, and coach and everybody said that he was really good, fast and attractive player. Better ofensive than defensive. He came to Red Star on recommendation of Vladimir Jugovic, maybe the best Red Star player in 1991, when they won Champions Cup. So Red Star was really eager to sign Palacios, but his manager set terms that were not acceptable for RS, too high. Palacios liked Red Star, he was really fast in fitting in and wanted to stay, didn’t want to go back to Honduras, all his family(even 4 brothers playing football) wanted him to sign and make his Europian way. He cried and begged manager to lower the price, but manager stayed on his terms, so Palacios left Belgrade in tears. Fans were a little bit upset Red Star didn’t sign him…
