Arsenal v Stoke City: van Persie to see Potters through

Arsenal v Stoke City: van Persie to see Potters through

Arsenal have a terrific record against Stoke, and with Robin van Persie in irresistible form can bag three points and continue on their march up the league.

The Gunners have won all three of their home matches against the Potters in the PL, and come into the game having won six of their last seven games at the Emirates in all competitions.

Stoke, on the other hand, have never excelled in away games against London clubs, winning three and losing 12 of their visits to the capital.

They have lost 4-0 away to Sunderland and 2-0 away at Swansea and seem unable to reproduce their best form when on the road.

No surprise then that Arsenal are general 1.57 chances to make it three premier League wins on the bounce.

That price looks about right, but there could be some better value to be had in markets involving van Persie.

The Dutchman did us a massive favour last week when scoring both goals in Arsenal’s victory over Sunderland to land our first goal scorer and anytime goal scorer bets and a repeat dose could be on the cards.

He has now scored 23 goals in 25 Premier League games in 2011, and it’s not hard to see him adding to that tally.

The red-hot striker is a 4.5 chance with Betfred, Boylesports, Paddy Power and Stan James to net the opener and that makes plenty of appeal.

However even better value surely has to be the even money (2) about him scoring anytime in the 90 minutes.

He is generally odds-on to do so and as short as 1.73 in a place. That makes the 2 on offer with Boylesports and Stan James look an absolute steal.

Given that Stoke have become something of a soft touch on their travels and have have fired in fewer shots on target (21) than any other team in the Premier League there must be every chance of Arsenal keeping a clean sheet.

They are around 2.55 chances to win to nil, but rather than play at those odds I would suggest having a go at a couple of correct scores for a bigger payout.

Arsenal to win 1-0 or 2-0 is my idea of the outcome. The former can be backed at 7 with bet365 and Victor Chandler while the latter is available at 7.5 with bet365 and Paddy Power.

    I am worried about this game. We should be Stoke home, as they are bad on the road, but they always seem up to play us. My heart tells me 2-0, but my head says 1-1

    Guys to be honest I’m not sure whether we will win tomorrow’s game. The team has lost confidence since the departure of Nasri and Fabregas. Its only few players that are playing with confidence and commitment and I’M worried we might lose some players e.g. Persie during January transfer window.

    If we want to compete in the champions league next season then we need to improve the team keeping our best players, by buying new players and sell those that are under performing such as Chamakh, Denlson, Almunia etc

    tired of seeing nasri and fabregas still being brought up with the doubting stories. they are gone, it sucks, but get over it. there is still talent in this side, and certainly enough of it to see us past stoke. i am confident. maybe it’ll come back to bite me, but i am believing in this side more and more, and it feels good. they don’t want to lose any more than i want them too. think of ramsey playing against them tomorrow and tell me the players won’t be fired up to stick it to stoke. COYG!!!!!!

    Leftcoastgooner,Thanks for your autobiography, u been around sometime lfgooner , isaac yohane you don’t have to fear becoz rvp will be here during the january season becoz he is ecl tied n he would want to finish the season off as been the skipper than jumping ship half way through,but believe me chamakh is under performing becoz wenger is using one main striker upfront when should be using 2 strikers,when rvp was injured chamakh was performing,wenger hasn’t even use park as yet, that tells you a lot.

    Hi all, Hi dutch,
    Don’t let the doubters wind you up, they have no more control of the game than you or I.
    Old saying goes “opinions are like assholes everybody’s got one”.
    Maccabi put up no fight yesterday so Whelan,Nash and Crouch got the day off and Etherington came off early. This means despite having played a day later they may actually be the more rested team. Unless… Arsene decides to let Ox, Park and Benayoun out of the box. Because of the usual raft of injuries I think our choices at the back are pretty limited. JD will probably be out on the right in place of CJ and BFG,Kos, and Santos will complete the back four.(is Gibbs fit?) But who will be in the midfield? Will the gaffer take a chance on the new additions? Are they in turn ready for the challenge? When are we going to take the wrappers off Park and Miyachi? I don’t expect both at the same time but so far it’s been neither one. Could anyone be less effective than Arshavin was mid-week? Oh well, I guess I’ll have to wait and see like everybody else and their asshole.
    @The flyingdutchmen Dutch who have you got Le Bleus or All Blacks?
    @1NTTA one-nil you out there?

    My mind tells me we are going to win Stokes on Sunday. The players are begining to get required confidence as we can see in the match against Marsel couple with the fact that Stokes have not been doing well in their away matches of recent. If the defence is tightly managed & the mid field is well marshalled by Song, Arteta & good assistance is received by RVP from Ghevinho & Ramsel. My fear is Delap’s throws (like free kicks) that terrify our defence. But all in all, I give it 2-1 in favour.

    Desperatly want to see the lads win on Sunday, and by the biggest possible margin. they need a bit more confidence, BUT I was very concerned at rumours that Van P may be on his way to Real Madrid shortly. ??
    I hope this is wrong, but if Van P goes, then Arsenal may as well shut up shop, and so should the other 16 no hopers, who will never again win anything in the P.L. that is now a joke. MONEY = Success.
    Why not simply buy your own trophy. ?
    Why would anyone not certifiable, pay good money, to stand in the cold, and watch Blackburm v Anyone, ? If money can buy trophies, the game is dead.
    It already is in Scotalnd, and Dying in Spain,(6 clubs in receivership)
    Portugal (4 clubs no longer in business)
    The only league in Europe that is in the black is in Germany, where the fans own most of the clubs. Bring it on here, or very soon the game will be dead.

    @Leftcoast,

    Gibbs is out for another two weeks, as is Diaby, with Verminator a bit closer. Our medical department looks a bit like ‘O Brother Where Art Thou’ at the moment : ” Well aint this geographical oddity, two weeks from anywhere!”.

    If Arsenal can grab an early goal or two, I wouldn’t be surprised to see RvP subbed in the second half.

    The Szcz

    Djourou – Kos – BFG – Santos

    Song

    Arteta – Benayoun

    Walcott Gervinho

    RvP

    In my opinion Rosicky has been our next best player this month behind Koscielny, but I’d hate to see the guy aggravate a niggle as a result of over-playing, plus Yossi hasn’t played much, so I’d like to see him start.

    The thought of Djourou being in a position to cross the ball makes me cringe..

    Leftcoastgooner,I would love to see the springboks been there but I hate their tactics,going for dropkicks n freekicks instead of going for tries and that what in reality cause the loss against the aussies, but it brought the nation together black,coloured n white which I haven’t seen before,since I am going to travel to new zealand and just becoz I do like attacking rugby the all blacks would be my favourite, hope it will not be a dull affair or one side,anyway arsenal should be injury -4 for stoke

    Sncezeny
    Djourou. Mertesacker. Kosienly. Santos

    Walcott. Song. Arteta. Ramsey

    Benayoun
    Van persie
    That’s my pick for the weekend,but I would go for three forwards park n chamakh since stoke isn’t that good away from home.

    @Monkeyhanger
    Wow, that presents a grim picture. I knew it was bad but didn’t realise quite how bad.
    How could/would fans financially assume control of teams that are owned by private individuals or trust and already have rights commitments with sponsors and broadcasters?
    @Gruggy I think your line up is the closest thing yet. TR7 will surely need to be rested but will BFG ever get a day off?
    @ Flyingdutchmen. All Blacks all the way. That’s where my dollars going. Have fun and travel safely,
