Bendtner and Adebayor up front please, Arsene

Bendtner and Adebayor up front please, Arsene

Just a very quick pre-Aston Villa update. Arsene Wenger has revealed that Abou Diaby will be made available for the important clash after recovering from a troublesome calf problem but Alex Song, Tomas Rosicky, Kolo Toure, Johan Djourou, Robin van Persie and of course Eduardo da Silva are all out injured. Meanwhile, Emmanuel Eboue will sit out the second match of a three-game ban that he picked up for his red card against Manchester United a fortnight ago.

Despite scoring two goals against Birmingham, I’d like to see Walcott start on the rightThe availability of Diaby means that Wenger has some decisions to make. Does he bring the Frenchman straight into the starting side on the left, move Alexandr Hleb to the right and push Theo Walcott up front alongside Emmanuel Adebayor? Does he keep Walcott on the right and play Nicklas Bendtner next to Adebayor? Does he play both Walcott and Diaby on the flanks and push Hleb forward into a support role for Adebayor?

Whether or not Diaby starts, I will be hoping that Wenger goes for a 4-4-2 and Bendtner partners Adebayor up top. They might not have the best relationship going at the moment but even despite Walcott’s midweek goals I think Bendtner is currently the better player and will cause the Villa defence more trouble with his presence up front.

The rest of the team picks itself; Manuel Almunia will start in goals behind a back four of Bacary Sagna, William Gallas (who has received a well-timed backing from the manager), Philippe Senderos and Gael Clichy. Mathieu Flamini and Cesc Fabregas will take up their normal places in the centre of the pitch and Hleb and Adebayor are certain starters as well, leaving Wenger with the task of filling the remaining spots with two of Bendtner, Walcott or Diaby.

Whatever happens, it should be a great game and hopefully the boys have recovered well enough from a difficult week to put in a good performance at home. I think as long as Wenger’s side show the right attitude then a much-needed win and three precious points are there for the taking. Hopefully they can do it for Eduardo.

What do you think?

Not having a go at Almunia but after Clichy’s last minute lapse last week, am i the only one who thinks that Mad Jens has to start in the last stretch, becoz with him in goal and his BIG MOUTH, its very rare that the defnders will lose concerntration n lets not forget he has been thru this and got his medal. So barring any blackburn moments we shuld be better with him in there, jus my opinion tho but strongly suggest.

    i’d say with 4-4-2

almunia; sanga, toure, gallas, clichy; walcott, flamini, fabregas, helb; bendtner & ade upfront

that way diaby can be subbed in for one of the midfielders, or replacea striker with walcott and put in diaby in his place

Mbhobho I completely agree with you. Still Lehmann is the better option for us because he is good in setpieces. I would like him to start aginst Milan. He can make difference in the tie. Bring LEHMANN BACK!!!!!!!

I don’t agree. Nick has been very very average recently and playing him against a side renowned for their aerial power at the back is very unlikely to work. Theo has fluctuated between very poor to incredibly promising and he has just had a massive confidence boost. To drop him now would set him back again. And Lehmann? Are you as mad as him? He may have had a good game against Milan but what? Manny is first choice on merit.

Bendtner and Adebayor cannot play together. The partnership cost us 2 points against Birmingham, although the referee and Clichy had a big part.
    It should be:

    Almunia

    Sagna-Gallas-Senderos-Clichy

    Walcott-Fabregas-Flamini-Diaby

    Hleb-Adebayor

Subs: Lehmann, Bendtner, Hoyte, Denilson, ?

What a few people seem to be forgetting is Jen’s propensity to distract the defenders before set pieces by getting in to spats.

How many goals did we concede last season from set pieces right after Jens had distracted everyone by having some argy bargy with an opposition player?

I can think of quite a few.

Jens will be gone at the end of the season, Almunia is the future unless we get someone else in.

Switching now could well bring on another Manninger situation, one of Wenger’s biggest mistakes, which cost Manninger a promising career, and Arsenal our future keeper.

adebyor and walcot should spearhead the attack force
niclas is only better as a subsitute
or we sell him and bring etoo in
we just need some cutting edge in our team at the moment
no more dady boy at the moment

The game could decide our title chances. with the two big away games we have Almunia was right to say we must win our home games. We must go to trafford with an advantage. I think if we go in the right frame of mind the stamford bridge run is over, 3 points and chelsea out of the race. However, we must win today, even scoring early may prove important. Come on the gunners. Id like bendtner up front as i think theo can be a more affective sub than bendtner because of his pace.

Ade and Theo should start upfront. They should recover from last week hiccups and give us a splendid weekend ahead. A win over Villa will stimulate a faster healing process of Eduardo’s broken LEG.

I think ADE and bentdner should play, with theo coming in as a sub. Diaby should start on the left, with hleb on the right. We should wear them down in the first ten minutes, an early goal will destablize their game plan. They have a good coach, wenger should becareful on selection and tactics, we cant afford to drop any points again, we have vultures behind us.

no point in putting two strikers together if they wont pass to eachother! Wenger needs to put them two straight! Id have bayor and theo, bring nik on dependant on how the game goes.

They have to learn at some stage. What better time to start building a partnership than now?

THANK YOU THANK YOU ADE for passing to Nik. Highway robbery from Villa but a point is a point nonetheless.

I heard a Fulham fan congratulating a M.utd fan for winning the title this season I believe the media is very much the same except they’ve congratulated them before the ball was kicked at the start of the season but the draw we got against Villa today convinced me we have a very good chance to win title I might sound a bit too optimistic but the way I look at it, its a point gained rather than 2 drops. The players have been through a difficult time recently but to score right at death shows they are really up for it and that goal might be crucial come the end of the season. I saw the way Wenger celebrated as if he won the league because he saw something that pleased him and that is the never die attitude the players showed today. I just hope we can build on those final minutes against Villa and take off again starting against Milan.
Just to mention some Villa fans made me sick as they were mocking Eduardo’s injury. Its sad and very cheap.
