Darragh unleashes himself on the New York Arsenal scene

When ex-housemate, good friend and regular commenter on this blog Darragh left Brisbane last week to start an internship with the United Nations in New York, he asked me if I knew the best place to watch Arsenal games in The Big Apple.

I didn’t, but I told him to get in touch with the good guys at 7am Kickoff to get all the details.

He soon got the answer he was after – Nevada Smiths in Manhattan – and a morningof madness ensued as Arsenal beat Bolton in front of bar packed with New Yorkers.

Darragh’s verdict on the night’s proceeding:

“I expect I’ll be there every weekend from now until I return to Australia.”

I’ve heard before that the Arsenal scene in New York is pretty awesome so it’s nice to see it’s true.

Nice one Daz and cheers to the guys from 7am Kickoff for helping him out.

Have your say on Arsenal in New York by leaving a comment.

People went mental when Fabregas scored. In conclusion: it was awesome.

thats awesome, I watch in a cafe at Dartmouth college…. not great, but better than nothing. Watching Arsenal in the states is tough

Nevada Smith’s is brilliant, I go there often. Especially on important Champion’s League knockout round days, when multiple games are all on at the same time and all the different teams’ supporters commingle and get up to a lot of fun back-and-forth. Not a scene I would suspect you would see in the UK — fans of four (or more) teams all sharing the same pub and not getting up to any handbags, just good-natured taunting and singing.

I love Nevada Smiths. Definitely, by favorite soccer pub in NYC (plus they have no compulsion about selling you booze at 7 am. Doesnt sound like much, but once you leave NYC you see how much of a rarity that is). Anyway, great venue, I remember seeing the carling cup final we played against chelsea a few years back….Decent Gooner crowd out there.

Have Darragh look up Kurtis or Brett in the back of Nevada’s by the big screen. If he sees either of my progeny (Ashley or Patrick), tell them they owe me money. Hope to see him there myself soon,
    Stay classy gooners.

Darragh, Nighthawk, hope to see you soon and often at Nevadas. We’ve got a good group there, and we’re easily the fastest-growing supporters club in NYC. Nevadas, for me, is the best place in the states to watch football. Jersey Shore Gooner posted our Facebook page, but I’ll throw the link up here too, as well as the link to the blog I write with along with a couple of other Gooners here and in London. If any of you find yourselves in NYC and want to check out a match, we’d love to see you.
