Djourou back for Wolves? Two stats that show why this is so important.

Good news today with the Swiss FA suggesting that Johan Djourou’s knee problem should only keep him out of action for a week.

“Johan Djourou’s knee injury is clearly not as bad as first feared. The player suffered very painful bruising on the knee but, if the healing process runs as it should, Djourou could probably begin training in less than one week.”

Statistics show how important Djourou has been to Arsenal

It’s absolutely brilliant news and when you look at the following two stats (taken from Football365 and OptaSports) you can see why:

  • Arsenal have conceded a goal every 251 minutes of Premier League football with Johan Djourou in the side this season. Without him, they have conceded a goal every 54 minutes.
  • Johan Djourou is unbeaten in his last 26 Premier League games, the longest current run in the division. Invincible.

  1. DJourou is a fecking awesome playa. He needs to shw Squillaci how to b a man. Squillaci said he was a hard man, my arse, more of a pussy.

  2. Couldn’t agree more providing your stats are correct, Djourooou can only get better providing Arsene purchases an even more aggressive player to compliment him. Similar to the the CB partnership at Manure.
By the way AW how did you rate young Jack’s performance last night.I cant understand why he is played as a DM when his offensive skills are his assets. Can you imagine Messi playing in that position. By the way I’m not calling Jack the new Messi!
    Up de ammers.

By the way AW how did you rate young Jack’s performance last night.I cant understand why he is played as a DM when his offensive skills are his assets. Can you imagine Messi playing in that position. By the way I’m not calling Jack the new Messi! How did Theo do?

  4. Djourou has been a revelation for Arsenal, especially after he successfully shut out the pain in the Arsenal Arse (Drogba)!! The stats speak for themselves and he seems to have an understanding with Konscielny; way to go AW!!! I must wonder though, who will be benched when Vermaelen comes back? Hmmmm!!!!

  5. Djourou has been at his best this season. He has prevented the likes of Drogba, Rooney and Tevez from scoring Arsenal. Welcome back to keep old cargos like Squilaci on bench.

  6. Djourou showed so much potential before he had a long lay off through injury. Now he is showing exactly why Wenger had so much faith in him.He has been awesome for us this season.Along with Koscielny,he has stepped up to the plate in Vermaelens absence. My only worry is that we have another injury and Squillaci needs to be played more…..what a scary thought!

  7. If this is true, then it really will be a great relief to our defence as we all know how good Johan Djourou has been for us this season. I hope he can come back in the given time but if he takes a few extra days or a week more I wouldn’t mind. So long as he’s ready for Barca. Win or lose against Barca, I would like to see just how much grit and determination the guys have in the 2 legs and how well tactics are deployed by Arsene Wenger. Hopefully we get a a win, but even if not, it would be great to give it a full-blooded effort with Johan Djourou leading the defence.

Also, has there been any news on Nasri? He was/is vital for our title push…

  8. Great News!! BUT I don’t feel the need to push him for the weekend game against wolves. I am also pretty sure Wenger doesn’t do it. We need him fully fit for Barca.

  9. i am very happy to see Djourou backed for Wolves and wish him many more success in this season league tittle and my more tittles.

  10. squillaci and djourou have conceded 2 in 417 mins thats a goal every 208.5 mins
kos and djourou have conceded 2 in 581 mins thats a goal every 290.5 mins
both of those are better than under graham when our record was a goal conceded every 102.
mins and they are the benchmark that arsenal defences are always measured against

  11. After the newcastle game nothing short of a 5-0 half time lead will allow me to relax. Unless Dowd is ref!

Great to see Djorou is back and fingers crossed he stays fit. Clearly he has loined the list of players who are now indispensable: Sagna, Song, Fab, RVP, Nasri, Wilshire.

  12. Steven DID NOT WRITE that post. It was plagarised from another arsenal blog.

Someone should pay me for proof reading ….geeez…..:P

  13. There is no doubt Djourou is important to the Arsenal right now.He is arguably our best centre back.Squillaci is not comfortable at all when he plays for us.
    Go gunners….

  14. @beck: It is very unfair to say that the present defense is better than the defense under graham. All those stats maybe true BUT Djourou has played very little number of games for Arsenal this season. Those stats will obviously come down when he starts to have a big run of games. Djourou still has to improve and he will improve. I am taking nothing away from his performances this season, he has played very well BUT comparing this defense to the one under Graham and actually saying that our present defense is better is just not correct at these early stages.

    Come On You Gunners !!

  15. Wenger has confirmed, at the Friday press conference, that Djourou will be fit for the Wolves game, whether he plays or not is another question.

  16. Good daу! I know this is kinda offf topic but I’d figured I’d ask.
