  1. hey guys, i think this is fantastic news! but (there’s always a “but”), whats AW gonna do when the new rules get enforced? for those who dont remember, the premier league rules commitee is planning to implement these rules either next seaon or the one after that, although not during this season.
    the rules include:
    A) lessen the number of first team players from 30 to 25
B)rules will say that 60% of the starting eleven of EVERY match should be English…

i dont know if these rules are a rumour, and believe me i hope they are, but what are we to do then?

  3. Nezar Eid – Arsenal will be fine on the home grown rule changes. Basically, with Koscielny, he’s replacing Gallas. So it’s “like for like” with one foreign born player coming in and a foreign born player leaving.

    Basic break down is this:

    1. 25 man roster for players over the age of 21
    2. Unlimited number of players under 21
    3. 8 of the 25 over 21 players must count as “home grown” – either English / Welsh nationals or have been with the club at least 3 years prior to their 21st birthday (loan spells abroad count as time earned towards being home grown as well, I think).

There was a fantastic article written on Untold Arsenal regarding the Prem rules changes, but I’ll have to hunt down the link for you.

  4. This is a big misconception. When the rule comes in you could still have a squad with NO English players at all in it. The rule says that you must have a certain number of players in the squad who spent 3 years in an English or Welsh academy before the age of 21. We got Fab, Theo, Eastmond, Gibbs, Wilshere, Clichy (i think), Djourou, Bendtner, Traore, Mannone, Ramsey, Denilson and Szczesny. There may be more. Bottom line is that Arsenal is very well prepared for the rule changes.

PTYang – Right. It can be any combination of either English/Welsh nationals that qualify AND/OR players who’ve been with the club at least 3 years prior to their 21st birthday. I don’t think there’s a provision for starting a squad that is 60% home grown though, as mentioned above.

  6. I’ve read the article, nicely written, Thanks for putting my mind at eas guys, appreciate it..
