Just a quick update on the Eduardo da Silva injury situation. According to all reports the surgery that was completed on his leg was a success and he should be able to play football again, although he will definitely miss the rest of the season and the Euro 2008 tournament.
Eduardo also revealed that he does not remember much of the the incident and was quick to thank his family and friends as well as everyone linked in with the Arsenal Football Club for their support during the last couple of days. The Arsenal striker’s comments were published on the club’s official website but I thought I’d include them in full here as well:
“I don’t remember the incident very well and it is not something that I want to see again on television or in the newspapers. All I remember is that when I fell, I looked down at my foot and it had turned the other way. The rest is just a blank. It was an unfortunate situation but these things can happen in football.
“I am unsure at the moment of the extent of the injury and how long I will be out of action for but I know that I won’t be able to play for Arsenal for the rest of the season or be ready in time for the Euros this summer. But I’m not worried about that. My concentration and determination is on making as quick a recovery as possible. I am determined to overcome this injury.
“I would like to thank the medical team here at Arsenal for their efforts as well as the staff at Selly Oak Hospital who carried out the operation on Saturday night. Everyone there made me feel as comfortable as possible. I would also like to say how touched I am by the many messages of support I have received and to be surrounded by my loved ones at this time.”
All I can say is that I wish Eduardo all the best in his rehabilitation. He seems like an absolute gentleman and his comments about not worrying about Euro 208 and only concentrating on making as strong a recovery speak volumes about his mature perspective on the whole situation.
As I said earlier I haven’t really got my head around the whole incident but I will be posting a detailed article on my thoughts of the Eduardo injury and what it means for the game later today. In the meantime I think it would be nice to hear the readers of the blog to wish Eduardo all the best in his recovery, so if you get the time I’d certainly encourage you leave some positive comments today. Cheers in advance.
