Martin Keown: Mesut Ozil has already left Arsenal

Arsenal legend Martin Keown believes German playmaker Mesut Ozil has left the Gunners already in his mind but insist the Gunners are well equipped to cope in the absence of the midfielder.

The German international has had an erratic season to the new campaign after been plagued with injuries so far, the 28-year-old has looked lost in the games he has played for the Gunners so far this season and he has been hugely criticized by both the fans and club legends. He has been linked with a move to Manchester United next summer and with one year left on his contract and the German refusing to sign a new contract, a move to Old Trafford might be on the cards next summer.

The Gunners might be looking at the possibility of cashing-in on the playmaker in the winter or risk losing him on a free next summer and with the player’s attitude questionable in recent games he has played so far this season Arsenal legend Martin Keown believes the German international has already left the club in his mind.

Martin Keown as quoted on Mesut Ozil, he said:

‘I think he’s testing Wenger more than any other player has,’ he also added,

‘I think in some departments he’s already left. Psychologically, mentally, he’s already left the football club. Maybe Wenger is now trying to do the best deal he can to get some compensation for him.

‘‘I think he doesn’t want that sort of player around the youngsters in the group. ‘’They played exceptionally well at Chelsea, where [Alex] Iwobi did a really manful job – I know he hasn’t got the talent of Ozil, of course, but suddenly Arsenal could compete in both departments defensively and attacking wise.

“It was probably the best performance I’ve seen in a couple of years,” he added.

The 28-year-old is known for his creativity, vision and his ability to pick out his teammates with a final pass. He played 44 games for the Gunners last season scoring 12 goals in all competitions.
