Ozil’s Arsenal future hinges on Wenger staying at the Club

Arsenal star players Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have stalled on signing new contracts at the club. The contract issue has dragged on since last summer before Arsene Wenger, few weeks back, claimed their contracts talks have been put on hold till the end of the season.

The two players will have only one year left on their respective contracts come this summer. While Sanchez has not really been outspoken about his future at the Emirates Stadium, with different news linking him to a number of top clubs across Europe, Ozil has not only lent his support for Wenger but has also claimed that his commitment to Arsenal hinges on Wenger’s future at the club.

“It’s not just important for me but for the whole club,” Ozil told the Daily Mail. “It’s important to know if he stays or if he goes. We need to think towards next season.

“He’s very important. In my career I’ve always made decisions not just because of clubs but managers, too. As a footballer, it’s important to have the manager’s trust and believe they can develop you.

“When I went from Madrid to Arsenal, I came for him because I told him at the time he’d be my first option. That was the case. We still have a super understanding today.

“I have his trust, he’s a superb coach. He’s been successful for many years, he’s been here for 20 years and has always managed to get Arsenal to reach the Champions League, making Arsenal a big club. He deserves to be shown respect.”

The Gunners boss has been under serious scrutiny from the supporters who want him replaced and despite there have been rumours that the Frenchman has been offered a new two-year contract extension at Arsenal.

Wenger himself has remained coy on his future, with the statement credited to him that “he has made up his mind” on his future. However, bookmakers such as Betfair are quite sure that the manager would remain at the club beyond this season.

Arsenal are interested in keeping Ozil and the midfielder signing a new contract now depends on the club keeping Wenger which is extremely contrary  to the fans’ demands.

Wenger contract expires in the summer and a run of poor results accompanied  with embarrassing result has seen the fans intensify the protests against him.

That notwithstanding, wenger remained highly respected by the club hierarchy and the fans would not want to lose their star man.

Its left too see whose side the management would swing to.
