Ramsey back in training, Bendtner back in action, Wenger to help PSG win the Champions League?

What a delight it is today to share with you photos of Aaron Ramsey training with the Arsenal boys for the first time since breaking his leg against Stoke on February 27.

The Arsenal website has a great collection of Aaron going through the paces at London Colny, a huge grin plastered on his face, and I strongly encourage you to check them out. First Robert Pires earlier in the week, now Ramsey’s return: the Arsenal official photographer must be having a field day out on the training ground!

Aaron Ramsey is back!

The news from Jamie Sanderson at the ever-reliable Young Guns website is that Ramsey is penciled in for a return to reserve-team action before Christmas. I’m sure there are supporters who were hoping he would make an earlier return than that, but if we learnt anything from Eduardo’s previous injury, it’s that the Welshman is going to need some serious time to get back to his best.

On a personal level I am just so happy to see clear evidence of Ramsey’s return to action. With Jack Wilshere making such an impact this season I think it’s easy to forget that at the time of his injury Ramsey had etched out a place in the starting line-up was in the form of his career. To have him back will take our midfield to another level.

To continue the good injury news it seems that Nicklas Bendtner, a player I thought would be unavailable for at least another fortnight, will feature against Birmingham this weekend. The man himself said:

“It feels absolutely fantastic. I am sure that I will be involved in the Arsenal game on Saturday, which I am looking so much forward to that after my long injury break. I actually believed, that I would have to play a couple of reserve games to be completely match fit, but after training with the Arsenal staff and physical trainer, I am probably in the best physical shape ever. Last week I was training with my team mates for five days, and then we had the weekend off, and I had no trouble at all training.”

It’s quite amazing news, really. Bendtner has hardly been spoken about by Arsene Wenger, there’s been next to no news of his return and then all of a sudden – BAM! – he’s back.

While I understand that few Arsenal supporters see Bendtner as part of our best eleven his availability will provide Wenger with the vital option to rotate Marouane Chamakh, a player that has been relied upon heavily so far this season and has just returned from a trip to Tanzania. The Dane’s return also gives us the ability to play two big men up top if required and his presence on the team – he’s clearly a well-liked and respected member of the squad – will have an impact as well.

Bendtner is the surprising returnee for Birmingham this weekend but there are likely to be others too, namely Cesc Fabregas and Thomas Vermaelen. Their participation in the next Arsenal game should be confirmed by Wenger in his usual pre-match press conference later today.

And speaking of the manager, he has made some interesting comments about the possibility of him joining up with Paris St Germain in the future in a board-level role, to help develop the French club. Anyone who has read the terrific football economics book “Why England Lose” will know that PSG has a huge economical potential to be a future European Champion if they get their act together and Wenger appears to know this too.

“PSG is the only club in the world which is based in an area of 10 million inhabitants and doesn’t have any competition [from a rival club]. What needs to be done is to get a group of investors around the table to provide the club with some financial muscle.”

So, PSG to be UEFA Champions League winners by 2025? Sounds like a distinct possibility to me.

Have a lovely Thursday and I’ll write to you tomorrow.
