Samuel Eto’o? Florent Malouda? Daniel Alves?
There is absolutely nothing going on in the world of Arsenal at the moment although Yogi’s Warrior from A Cultured Left Foot has written a very good post which gives a good wake-up call for the supposedly loyal Arsenal supporters out there who are frustrated at the current transfer speculation dogging the club. As for me, I’ve spent most of the week working on an article outlining my Arsenal Team of the Decade. It should be ready in the next day or two so stay tuned.
In the meantime I thought it would be interesting to get some reader opinions about the current transfer situation. In particular I wanted you guys to answer the following question:
“Which player do you want to join Arsenal during the summer and why?”
Regular readers will of course know that my favoured signing would be Lyon’s Florent Malouda. He is a proven international quality winger with a great work ethic and a strong scoring record and I believe he would have the ability to adapt to the way that the current Arsenal team plays. You can read more of my thoughts on Florent Malouda here.
To give your thoughts about who Arsenal should sign you will need to leave a comment which you can do by clicking here.
well, this might just be the time when as arsenal fans, we face the new experience of out-bidding an opponent for a player. Liverpool want him too, and they seem to be quoting somewhere in the range of roughlt 8million quid…
i think if we have convince reyes to come back (using methods such as double salary package/free imported spanish hookers/etc…) if this can be arranged then, we dont really need malouda since reyes would do the same job minus the transfer cost.
that would sort out the left wing, as for the right…Quaresma? hes too good a player to be at Porto. Joaquin? hes a superb winger from Valencia..
*if we can convince Reyes to come back
First of all, I have to assume Reyes is not coming back to us.
Right back/center back: Micah Richards. Energitic, self proclaim gunner, aerial power that we are lacking. He can cover both positions which we are going to miss Eboue & Toure next season. As everybody knew how good is your medical stuff.
Left/Right winger: Queresma or Malouda. Even my wife also know we lack of wide player that able to run to the bye-line. My first choice will be Queresma. I believe he will try his best to emulate the C.Ronaldo success story in Premiership. Regarding Malouda, I don’t think I need to say anything more, SF already had a very good write up.
Striker : Jan Huntelaar. We need one player who has good positioning sense and scores clear cut chances we created like last season. Baptista had pretty good position sense but can’t score those clear cut chances. That’s why he has to go. One imnportance point about Jan Hunterlaar is that he is below van Persie in term of pecking order in Dutch national team. I believe he will be more acceptable to sit on the bench when RvP is fit. That will also pressure RvP to perform better. Ideally I would like to see David Villa wearing Red & White Fly Emirates but I know will never happen. Second choice should be Babel (striker cum right winger), I believe he can link up with RvP easily like Henry-Pires combo. Adebayor will be away during Africa Nation Cup. Look at the last 2 seasons record, the chances of either Henry or RvP injury for 1 to 2 months is pretty high. I also won’t be suprise to see both of them out of action for 1 to 2 months.
Shravan - Reyes will definitely not be coming back. He has said time and time again that he does not want to return to England and will most likely find a club to play for in Spain.
It definitely is obvious!
India-Gunner - “Even my wife also know we lack of wide player that able to run to the bye-line.”
Babel or Queresma maybe ludavic guily.
Im not sure about malouda havent seen
to much of him but what i have
was pretty average.
We need defenders or a defender at least
and another striker someone that can score
scrappy goals. teves? owen? darren bent? nugent?
Any of them players would suit me
then i could look forward to next season
with out worrying so much about all this
negativaty.
I LIVE WITH A FAMILY OF MAN U/LIVERPOOL
ALL I HEAR IS
SUPPORTERS HELP ME
HENRY IS GOING HERE WENGERS GOING THERE!
Ideally we’d get Kaka on a free transfer via some contract loophole. That ain’t gonna happen.
I think we’re pretty good in the striker department. Henry, Adebayor, Van Persie, Bendtner, and Walcott is a pretty good selection, and 2 of those guys are world class. We don’t need another striker.
I think Eboue had some second season syndrome last season. I don’t think we need another right back because we’ve seen how good he can be. He just needs some consistency. Though Alves would be nice.
I guess what we need most is a wide player. I’m a little skeptical about Quaresma. He’s an excellent player, but I haven’t seen much of his close passing. He looks like a very good dribbler. Very quick. But I don’t know if he’d fit in with the team.
I’d really like to see Robben come to Arsenal, even if he is a little diving bastard. I think he’d fit in great and he’s able to get a powerful shot off without opening his body much, which would ideally suit the tight passing. I don’t think Chelsea would sell him to us, though they did let Gallas go (stupidly). More realistically, I think Malouda is a really good option.
Andrew - Kaka would be great, I couldn’t turn him down.
But like you said, realistically, Malouda is the best option.
Am I the only person who has noticed the fact that we haven’t been linked to Malouda anywhere but on blogs? No sources, no-one from either clubs, no newspaper speculation…
Also, my team of the decade:
Seaman
Lauren Toure Keown (I feel ashamed saying it but) Cole
Ljungberg Vieira Cesc Pires
Henry Bergkamp
Except for the shame of writing Ashley, that was easy. Assuming the decade you mean 2000-07 and not the past ten years, because if so, Adams would make it easy and I like Winterburn way more than Cole, even if he wasn’t as good.
Samuel - Thanks for your thoughts mate. The team will basically be any players who played since Wenger took over as manager. That means 1997-2007. You’ll hear what I have to say tomorrow.
At the moment i don’t believe we have the funds availiable to be goin out and buying world class players, i think Wenger should be trying to work with what he has got. in my opinion this formation below could work for us next season:
Leahman
Hoyte Toure gallas Clichy
Gilberto
Eboue Cesc Denilson RVP
Henry?/adeboyor
Obviously a few new signing would freshen up the side but i think u can get naturall with Eboue & RVP. this could work, Agree??
quaaresma, zlatan ibrahimovic and diego.these are all good players.the can run the game and score goals.
Jimmy - It’s nice to see someone take a look and assess what we have rather than what we don’t have. I think we have the makings of a good team there, but in my opinion I would always play Eboue ahead of Hoyte and I would prefer Gilberto over Denilson. After Gilberto I would probably play Diaby. Thanks for the thoughts though.
Emmanuel - They are all great players. Especially Diego, he is a personal favourite of mine. It will be interesting to see where Ricardo Quaresma ends up as he has a big reputation but, realistically, they are three players that are out of the reach of Arsenal for various reasons.
I think that Wenger should buy a class winger such as malouda who is a really good left footed player. In attack we don’t need anyone ONLY IF Henry leaves, someone like Fernando Torres could be an excellent replacement.
floxis - That’s right. If Henry doesn’t leave (which he won’t) I don’t think we really need reinforcements up front. If Babel arrived it would cover both left-wing and support for up front.
