Why Arsenal must spoil Chelsea’s Double dream

Chelsea have been touted as favourites heading into this weekend’s FA Cup clash against Arsenal. The Blues have just won the League in breathtaking fashion, winning 30 games and claiming an impressive haul of 93 points, and will be looking to win a second Double after claiming it in 2010.

The Gunners are in need of a lift and none better than a win against a team that has bullied them over the years. The Gunners will be without Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel, after both players picked up suspension and injury against Everton respectively, making their task all the more difficult.

The futures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have been shrouded in controversy. The pair have contracts that expire next summer and all talks to extend the deals have not yielded any fruit. Manager, Arsene Wenger’s continuation at The Emirates is also not cast in stone and one last hurrah in The FA Cup could see him end his managerial career on a high.

Arsenal going into the match have not been given any chance at all, and going into next season, a win at Wembley could go a long way in helping us believe that Chelsea are not really unbeatable, and that could serve as a cue to other teams, who will be looking at winning the title yet again.

Another defeat against Antonio Conte’s men could dampen morale at The Emirates going into next season, and with the gruelling Europa League on offer, Arsenal have it all to do. Another factor going for us is Arsene Wenger’s record in the FA cup, having won 2 of the last 3. No manager has won more than the Frenchman’s six, while Conte has never won a domestic cup competition.
