Why Arsenal should sign Idrissa Gueye

Chelsea won the league at a canter last season, and many betting sites pointed to the sign that they got Ngolo Kante, who was a key influencer on Chelsea winning the league in such a devastating fashion. The 25-year-old Frenchman had been hailed for his impact on English football, since his move from Caen to Leicester this season, and promptly helped the club win an unlikely league title in his solitary season at the Kong Power stadium. Kante was rumoured to be wanted by Arsene Wenger, however the Arsene Wenger believed his compatriot was too one-dimensional, and couldn’t offer the sort of tactical variance the team needed, and instead opted for Granit Xhaka.

The rest is history as they say, yet, in ways that still continue to befuddle Arsenal fans, the legendary tactician has been granted a new 2-year deal at The Emirates, and there is a growing feeling that the club wants to win The Premier League after 14 years of hurt. Wenger has been told he will be backed in the transfer window with huge transfer outlay, however, what should be paramount this summer is the acquisition of a specialist destroyer in the midfield, and only one man comes to mind.

Everton ‘s Idrissa Gueye has gone under the radar for the past two seasons, but matches Kante for both tackles and interceptions made in the past two years. The former Aston Villa man was the highest tackler in the league last season beating Kante, who was the supposedly better player.

He won’t command a huge transfer fee, and as Kante proved, having a top-class enforcer in the middle of the park is a necessary evil, given that attackers have more leverage these days, and there is greater need to stop opposition players. Kante has thrived in West London, and it’s time Arsenal sign his equivalent. He might help end 13 years of hurt and sorrow.

Although it may look ridiculous if Arsenal make a move for Gueye since we just signed Granit Xhaka last term, which makes the midfield already stocked with talents. However, it must be noted that the imminent departure of Santi Cazorla is bound to create a vacuum in our midfield.

The Gunners suffered a lose of form in the second half of last term – which coincided with the time Cazorla joined the injury room, making us fall like pack of cards in the title chase and, in extension, crashed out of our usual comfort zone, the fourth place.

The signing of Gueye would ensure that we don’t run out of steam in the latter stages of the campaign which promises to be quite strenuous with the Europa League competitions.
